Vicinia CPSS technology involves an IoT platform, which facilitates the integration of an array of sensors and their associated data into Vicinia solutions. This enables data-driven decision making based on actionable sensory intelligence. For example, light, temperature and humidity sensors provide insights in many enterprise and industrial applications. The IoT platform serves as a unified gateway for the management and monitoring of all devices including mobile phones with Vicinia apps, displays, smart tags and sensors; and the management of maps across all platforms. In addition, it provides the data utilized in Vicinia data analytics services.

Vicinia Smart Indoor Maps is where you can find everything: space characterizations, utilities, routes, equipment and furniture. It scales seamlessly and efficiently across spaces and display sizes. And yes, it looks nice too! Did we say that a single Vicinia Smart Indoor Map runs smoothly on all platforms? Yes, on mobile, web and digital kiosks.

Indoor Positioning System

GPS fails indoors. This is frustrating at best and dangerous at worst. But what if you could pinpoint the location of thousands of people within the walls of large buildings in real time? Or track hundreds of assets located within 1 meter accuracy? 

Positioning on Device

Vicinia Mobile Apps encapsulate the indoor positioning engine to pinpoint the position of the user right there at the device. It uses an array of proprietary environmental clues and techniques for an improved accuracy and user experience. Depending on the device, it can also utilize radio signals from both BLE beacons and WiFi access points. Vicinia positioning on device technology enables a number of interesting applications: It provides the “blue dot” indoors for wayfinding in large venues; It pinpoints the user in large buildings in case of emergencies (of course if the user has agreed to the release of position information). In addition, anonymized location data is an excellent source of data for analytics and business process optimization. Vicinia Positioning on device technology runs both on Android and IOS and is extremely energy efficient for best user experience.

In some use cases, we wish to locate or track an object inside large buildings, but the subject does not need this information directly. For example, we may wish to track assets in a hospital, or track personnel for security, safety, compliance or improving business efficiency in a factory. More often than not, we may only afford a small hardware to do so; one that is cost efficient and lasts long enough without recharging or battery replacement. That is where Vicinia positioning on server technology comes in. Our Smart Tags emit BLE signals that are received by our Data Gathering Nodes installed inside the building. This is in turn communicated to the positioning engine on the server to pinpoint the location of the tag. This information is then analyzed and presented to the user within different Vicinia solutions and applications. Our Smart Tags come in a variety of shapes and sizes for different applications.

Zoning

In some applications, pinpointing the exact position of the people or objects indoors is more than necessary. For example, locating equipment in a hospital or university with room level accuracy may be sufficient. Vicinia uses a proprietary zoning technology to identify the zone in which a tagged object is located. This technology provides multiple advantages: (1) Based on Vicinia Smart Indoor Maps, one can set different zones as the application scenario requires; and (2) It facilitates a graceful reduction of infrastructure cost as the positioning accuracy requirement becomes less stringent in certain applications.

Outdoor navigation services, such as those provided by Google and Apple run on GPS technology, and are now integral parts of our daily lives. Things are a bit different indoors or on large campuses and venues, as such solutions are non-existent. With smart maps and positioning technologies, Vicinia provides navigation services in and around buildings and campuses. Next time, you head to a corporate campus, a shopping mall, or an airport that is equipped with Vicinia solutions, simply search your place of destination on your mobile phone or the available wayfinding kiosk. Next, seamlessly navigate to the destination on your mobile phone within the web browser or the dedicated App of the facility. This is particularly useful for campuses and venues with complicated and varied transportation and parking options. The management dashboard, Vicinia Desk, allows campus management to adjust routing profiles for particular occasions and events with a few clicks. And yes! That is communicated to all Vicinia-powered platforms, mobile, web and kiosk, with the blink of an eye!
